 Housing in Yidish-Hoyz
Deadline: June 1, 2009
Housing Applications are available HERE.
Please be aware that a $780 deposit is required upon submission of your housing application. The total cost of housing is $1560 for the six week period.
Students live in a community setting at the Palladium, a dormitory on 14th street between Third and Fourth Avenues. The Palladium is a ten-minute walk to Washington Square classrooms and central campus.
Students have single rooms centered in a suite around a common area. These air-conditioned apartment-style residences include a bath, kitchen, and dining area. There is no microwave or dishwasher in the kitchen space. This new dormitory features a full athletic center with an Olympic-sized swimming pool. There is also a dining hall, a TV lounge, 5 music practice rooms with pianos, a game room, 4 lounges, a laundry center and a university cafe next door. New this year, Trader Joe's has opened a store on the ground floor of Palladium.
* Students who wish to purchase a meal plan (kosher meals are available), please see Meal Plans section.
Please indicate on your program application form if you plan to stay in the yidish-hoyz. Housing must be reserved for the full duration of the program, arrival Sunday, June 28 - check out on Saturday, August 8th. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis, so please notify us as soon as you are able.
If there is no space in yidish-hoyz, students may also apply directly to NYU Summer Housing (online applications available in February 2009) for other accommodations, including shared spaces with non-YIVO students.
Housing Payment
- $1560 for six weeks
- $2080 for eight weeks (only if taking Refresher Course)
Students will be charged directly by the Bursar for housing.
If you are taking the Reading Skills Workshop and plan to stay in NYU housing, you will need to arrive on Sunday, June 28th. We ask that you let us know by email (yivoyiddish@yivo.cjh.org) as soon as possible so we can arrange the additional day of housing for an additional fee.
Housing for the Refresher Course, which begins June 16th, is charged in addition to your housing for Yidish Hoyz, and may be in a different location (we will make every effort to keep you in the same room but it cannot be guaranteed). Please let us know by email if travel plans or other circumstances prevent your from arriving on Sunday. Email: yivoyiddish@yivo.cjh.org
